About the Company

What started as a sewing hobby and passion for textiles grew into a full-fledged design company that we now know as Project Style. For her entire life, Kathy had a knack for design and a passion for helping people. Transitioning that into a successful business was a no-brainer.

What to Expect as a Client

Industry experts, such as building trades professionals, seamstresses, and window treatment specialists often refer clients to Project Style because they trust Kathy’s professionalism and commitment to her clients. Although she may be working on numerous projects at once, Kathy organizes her time to fulfill all of her commitments with effortless efficiency. So what can clients expect from Project Style? For starters, the following:

Realistic Goals and Budget

What’s shown on channels like HGTV is not always a realistic goal for many homeowners. Kathy is always honest with clients and provides realistic options and a budget that fits.

Honest, Upfront Service

By being honest with clients, Kathy is able to ensure that everyone is always on the same page and knows exactly what to expect. The simple fact is that not all projects can be accomplished within the same timeframe; some projects take longer.

Collaboration

The best types of projects are the ones where the homeowner has a strong opinion and idea for their space. Hiring an interior designer does not necessarily mean you are hiring someone to create something out of nothing, but that you are hiring someone to implement your ideas in a functional and efficient manner.

Quality vendors & service providers

Throughout her lifetime, Kathy has made numerous contacts within the industry. These contacts are vendors, builders, consultants and more. Each vendor is qualified, experienced, and equally passionate about your project.

What’s it Like to Work with Kathy?

Kathy is a perfectionist in every sense of the word. From start to finish, she makes sure that projects are completed on time and according to her client’s budget. She shares core values and beliefs with all of her vendors and ensures that her projects are completed ethically and with great care and consideration.

She’s also approachable. A kind heart and a desire to do what’s right for her clients support her no-nonsense approach. Design is subjective, and if there is a disagreement or change of mind, Kathy does not take it to heart. She genuinely loves collaborating with clients while doing away with the stigma that interior design is an outdated and snobby industry. Kathy works hard to make sure her clients are comfortable and not intimidated by the idea of working with a designer to create their perfect space.

It has been my pleasure to know and be a dear friend of Kathy Phillips of Project Style for over 30 years.  Kathy has done design projects for me at my homes in Marietta, Georgia, and Cary, North Carolina.  In my Marietta home she advised me about which wallpapers, paint colors and window treatment styles and fabrics I should consider for my kitchen and family room, and personally fabricated and installed them.  When we moved to Cary, North Carolina, we shopped together for all the fabrics and wallpapers that I would need.  We had purchased a Victorian style house that had lots of windows which presented many design challenges.  Kathy was very sensitive to the fact that my husband and I wanted all of the natural light we could get but also needed privacy.  She designed fabric covered shades and top treatments to match, which allowed us to get privacy when we wanted it yet allowed us to raise the shades and still have the natural light we craved.  After 23 years in this home, I still love the fabrics, the treatments, and the mood that they bring to the great room of my home.

After we added an 800 square foot addition to our home, we called on Kathy once again to help us choose the wallpapers, paint colors, fabrics and window treatment styles for the new rooms.  She patiently shopped for several days until she was satisfied that we had seen enough to make informed decisions.  She was very good at guiding me to the right choices and very gentle about letting me know that some of my choices would have been design nightmares!  She designed my office around a treasured hand knotted rug that I had purchased on a trip to Turkey and made sure that the new rooms flowed seamlessly into the rest of the house.  I can’t thank her enough for giving me a home I will always take great pleasure in, and I look forward to engaging her services in the near future when we build our beach home.

Where Does She Find Inspiration?

Kathy’s personal style is very traditional and vintage inspired, think Southern Living and Traditional Home Magazine. Some of her prized possessions include a handmade antique chandelier and kitchen table. Although she specializes in pieces with a history, this doesn’t mean that she is limited to designing traditional spaces. One of Kathy’s greatest joys is the challenge of procuring unique pieces for clients.

She is inspired by textiles. Creating rooms with rich layers, texture, and mixed fabrics are her favorite types of projects, while her knowledge of the building trades makes her well rounded in designing and implementing flawless functional design.

Kathy at Home

Kathy understands how important it is to be happy in your home. It’s the place where you spend the most time, and it should provide relaxation and inspiration. In her spare time, Kathy has a similar spark and passion that she presents in her professional life. A true lover of the outdoors, Kathy enjoys kayaking and hiking with her husband as well competing in agility competitions with her dog.

Her children are now grown and married so it’s prime time that she and her husband get down to enjoying life. When she’s not working, she enjoys traveling and bird watching.

As a local business owner, Kathy is a proud supporter of other local businesses and organizations. Volunteering and developing relationships with people in her community inspires her on a daily basis. More than anything, she wants her welcoming nature and positive community contribution to make an impact on her clients by providing them with spaces that will inspire them and create more positive thoughts and energy.
